Foundation Support
Foundation grants to KQED support a range of programs, from news or education overall to specific coverage areas (housing, climate, police accountability, early education and care), to R&D projects that enable us to pilot new services to communities. We work with foundation representatives to ensure that grant funding supports programs that align with your impact priorities.
Why Support KQED?
Whatever sector or issue a foundation may strive to impact, its grantmaking portfolio should include trustworthy journalism that informs, inspires and involves communities in that issue, and that holds powerful institutions in that sector accountable. These are foundational to long-term impact in any sector.
KQED produces compelling stories on the issues that matter to our communities and to many foundations, such as effective education, science literacy, a vibrant arts sector, and potential solutions to problems in affordable housing, the economy, criminal justice, immigration, and more areas explored in depth by KQED News across a range of programs and platforms.
KQED tracks the reach and impact of our work. For instance, in a recent survey, over 70% of listeners of KQED’s Forum reported that an episode of Forum “changed their mind” about an issue they cared about. This means that KQED news and public affairs programs correct misunderstandings and misinformation. Over 50% of survey respondents said an episode “inspired them to take action.” Sometimes the impact can be very direct and significant, particularly in investigative journalism, where projects have led to hundreds of millions of dollars in public investment for communities in housing and climate mitigation in the last five years.
